READ PSALM 126

Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy. (Psalms 126:5)

Life is filled with trouble. Jesus himself said as much when speaking to his disciples in John 16:33. Trouble and tribulation is a sure thing in this fallen world. No matter what point we find ourselves in life we are either dealing with pain, have dealt with pain, or will deal with it in the future. In times of struggle we must remember God’s past faithfulness is an indicator of his character. Psalm 126 is a psalm that the Jews sang as they approached the temple of God. It was a reminder to God’s people that as they look back at God’s ability to restore and establish his people they can trust that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Psalm 126 has a simple message. The God who promised a savior to Adam and Eve following their sin in the garden (Gen. 3), who spared Noah in the flood and reestablished his covenant, who provided a sacrifice for Abraham, who delivered his people from slavery in Egypt, who empowered David to slay Goliath, who sent his Son to die for his people is the same God who will see to it that you are loved. If you are in a season of tears, finding yourself wearing over the hurt you’ve experienced or the evils of this current world joy is just around the corner. God promises, “Those who sow in tears, will reap with shouts of joy” (Ps. 126:5).
