The Feast You’re Looking For (John 6:26-35)

“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.” (John 6:35)

I recently started doing high-intensity workouts, and at first, I’d wake up in the morning feeling groggy and exhausted. Every joint and muscle ached. When I’d go to my workout class, I’d hit a wall halfway through.

And I quickly realized something: I couldn’t just eat whatever I wanted and expect to recover and grow stronger. I needed to change my entire diet. So I cut back on sugar and processed carbs and started fueling up with more protein and complex carbs.

As my body struggled to keep up with the workouts, I learned firsthand that what you eat matters.

McDonald’s french fries might fill you up for a moment, but they don’t help your body recover. You know what does? Okinawan sweet potatoes, rich in nutrients that actually help your body heal, rebuild, and get stronger.

And if that’s true for your body, how much more true is it for your soul?

Jesus addresses this exact idea in John 6. He’s not just talking about what fills your stomach, He’s talking about what fills your heart, your soul, your entire life. God loves you too much to give you spiritually processed junk food. He cares too much to simply cater to your cravings. Like the best nutritionist or performance coach, He knows exactly what you need. And He’s not here to tweak your current diet—He’s here to completely redefine it.

That’s what we see in John 6, when Jesus pulled off one of the most mind-blowing miracles in history, feeding over 5,000 people with just a few loaves and a couple of fish. It was a buffet party! People were amazed, and suddenly, Jesus was the most popular guy around.

But instead of riding the wave of popularity, Jesus used the moment to teach a deeper truth when they came back to him for more food. He essentially says, “You’re chasing after free food, but I want to offer you something better. Something that will sustain you all day. Something that will actually give you life.”

The One who created you also knows what you really need. And in His love, He’s constantly redirecting you, not toward the sugary, high-carb spirituality we often crave, but toward the one food that has all the nutrients you need: Himself.

Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life.”

During His time, bread wasn’t just a side dish, it was the staple. The daily necessity. It wasn’t like the highly processed white bread we have today. It was dense, hearty, and essential.

Jesus uses this bread analogy to say:
He’s the superfood your soul needs every day. He’s the protein and complex carbs that fuels you for the challenge coming next. He’s the real meal that truly satisfies.

Jesus doesn’t just bring you the food you need, He is the food.

So, what’s in the refrigerator and kitchen cabinets of your soul?

  • Tons of leisure activities?
  • A new relationship?
  • Working long hours to be ____ ?

How are you feeling lately?

  • Reenergized and ready to go?
  • Aching, moody, or impulsive?

Jesus is teaching us a spiritual health hack:
What you feed your soul with matters. Both now and forever.

If you’re constantly snacking on spiritual junk food, you’re going to crash.

But if you feed on Jesus—you’ll grow stronger, healthier, and more alive than ever.

Jesus said He’s the Bread. He’s the superfood your heart and soul needs each day.

So this week, receive from Him. Spend time with Him. Eat from and of Him.

Let Him fill your appetite and watch Him refresh both your body and soul.

Then you’ll be ready, not just for the next workout, but for whatever life throws your way.
