(Day 1) Genesis 1 : A Book of Beginnings
In what ways do you think God views his creation as being good (1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25)?

What special commands and provisions does God give to the man and woman in his creation (1:28-31)?

What similarities are there between God’s own work in creation and the commands and responsibilities he gives to the man and woman?

The creation account reveals the nature of God’s mission: bringing order, beauty, and harmony out of chaos. In what areas do you need to trust God to do the same in your life? In what way does God want to use you to do the same in the world?

Prayer Focus: God’s sovereign power in the world and in your life

Family Devotional:  Read Genesis 1:9-23. What is your favorite part of God’s creation? What does it tell you about God, since he created it?

(Day 2) Genesis 2: One Shining Moment
What are we told about the garden God has prepared for Adam (2:8-14)?

What responsibility, freedom, and limitation does God give to the man (2:15-17)?

What does verse 24 teach about marriage?

Since we are created in the image of God, how does this affect our relationship with God? With other people (2:18)?

Prayer Focus: God’s work to re-conform you to his image

Family Devotional:  Read Genesis 2:4-9.  What did God provide for Adam in the garden? What are some things he has provided for you and your family?

(Day 3) Genesis 3: The Crash
How does Eve’s answer to the serpent misrepresent God’s command (3:2-3)?

What statements does the serpent make about the purpose and results of the command (3:4-5)? How does this distort Eve’s thinking (3:6)?

How did Adam and Eve’s sin affect the relationship between themselves, and between them and God (3:7-13)?

Adam and Eve followed their own impressions against God’s instructions, doubted God’s concern for their interests, and made self-fulfillment their goal. How have you fallen into these temptations?

Prayer Focus:  God’s conviction, leading to repentance for sin

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 3:1-6. Our natural desire is to do things God has told us not to do. What are some things your desires have told you to do that you knew were wrong?

(Day 4) Genesis 4: Crouching at the Door
Why do you think the Lord looked with favor on Abel’s offering, but not on Cain’s (4:3-7)?

How does verse 7 illustrate the nature of sin and our response to it?

Why do you think the Lord confronts people with questions (3:11-13, 4:9-10)?

How have you experienced the consequences of sin in your own life?

Prayer Focus: God’s healing of relationships damaged by sin

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 4:1-7. When you are disciplined for doing the wrong thing, how do you respond? How does God want you to respond?

(Day 5) Genesis 7: Under Water
Skip back to chapter 6. How does God view the human condition at this time (6:5-13)?

What provisions does the Lord make for Noah and the living creatures to preserve life (7:14-22)?

If God loved the world (John 3:16), why would he intentionally kill so many people (7:23)?

What does this chapter reveal about the judgment and the grace of God?

Prayer Focus:  God’s salvation of people you know who are currently under judgment

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 7:1-4. God provided salvation to Noah and his family so they wouldn’t be caught in the flood. What has God provided for you and your family?
