Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever.” (John 6:51)
When I was a girl, we had the best Christmas feast ever at my granny and grandpa’s. The whole family was there – aunts, uncles, cousins – all seated at a long table, which was beautifully decorated. Granny was the best cook and there was endless food, Christmas cookies, candy, and Magic Cookie Bars. I ate and ate and ate!
Then it was over. The food was gone. All that was left was a big mess of dirty dishes. And, my tummy hurt! After anticipating Christmas for nearly a month, it was over in just a few hours. What a disappointment; life returned to normal.
Had my focus been on Jesus, whose birth we were celebrating, I would have realized that Jesus offers a forever feast – without dirty dishes and tummy aches. In John 6:51, Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever.” My granny’s food was great – but Jesus’ provision is even better! My granny’s decorations were beautiful – but Jesus offers an eternal city of gold and precious stones.
Have you ever considered what God has prepared for those who love him? In 1 Corinthians 2:9, Paul quoted from the Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
Put your faith in God and expect an eternal feast, which starts today!
