Career Hacks (Proverbs 10)

The LORD will not let the righteous go hungry, but he denies the wicked what they crave. (Proverbs 10:3)

Work hard, and rest well, by trusting God. When you are in Christ, you are made righteous, and God promises, “The LORD will not let the righteous go hungry.” He satisfies you with your needs of hunger and thirst. He knows what you need… so we shall not want, because “I have what I need” (Ps. 23:1).

When God is your shepherd, there may be hard work. But there is the sacredness of your 9-to-5 or being a stay-at-home spouse, changing diapers and doing laundry. God has designed as a model for us to work 6 days and rest in Him. We ought to follow this model to our best ability: resting from necessary work and recreation, since our rest is  actively trusting in God’s ability to provide. Our rest is our declaration of our dependence on His promise to not let the righteous go hungry.

If we fail to trust him, we may be tempted to work to the bone — until we receive what we crave. So, take caution that this proverb also promises that God will not give what the wicked crave. He denies them their cravings. So, ask yourself, “Does God actually think I need this, or does He want me to have this? Or is this an idol that I crave?” Trust His provision and follow Him!

Those who follow Him will experience God preparing a table for them. So do not fear! The Lord is with you! (Ps. 23:4-5). Your cup will overflow and goodness will follow you. Rest well in God’s blessings, friend.
