Grace-Fueled Marriages (Colossians 3)

by Apr 14, 2024

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:1-2)

Proverbs 31 depicts an ideal wife and husband. These ideals are impossible without God fueling you by his grace. How do we get there?

Being grace-fueled starts with Jesus. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. But setting your mind on things above is not possible without the resurrection of Jesus Christ. You first must be raised with Christ and put on your new self in him. Additionally, you are being renewed to reflect God (Col. 3:10). As you set your minds on things above and put to death what is earthly nature, God also renews you by his grace.

There is more to “seek the things above, where Christ is.” Because Jesus led and served as a servant leader unto death, when we seek to be renewed in his image, we will put away our selfish ways and go lead and serve like Jesus did. Husbands will serve and sacrifice; wives will submit and sacrifice. Even if you are not married, can you imagine how the church would be if we all looked like Jesus and sought where Christ is? The earth will fade and grow dim, but Jesus will reign forever. Let’s seek to be more like Christ today.
