Satisfaction in God
Psalm 90:14-15 encourages us to find satisfaction in God’s love each day. This will bring us joy and gladness, even in the midst of affliction and hardship.
- Satisfy us in the morning with Your steadfast love
- Make us glad for as many days as You have afflicted us
- Make us glad for as many years as we have seen evil
The Fleeting Nature of Life
Life is short and unpredictable. Psalm 90:12-17 reminds us to live wisely and productively, making the most of the time we have.
- When we’re young, we don’t notice the fleeting nature of life as much
- As we get older, we see the finish line in the near distance
- We begin to understand how fleeting life truly is
The psalmist asks for a heart of wisdom so that he doesn’t waste his days on empty pursuits.
- We make sure what we do matters by doing what pleases the Lord: knowing Him, worshiping Him, serving Him, and obeying Him
- Psalm 90 tells us what makes life hard and miserable is living under the constant displeasure of the Lord, stoking His divine anger
- God disciplines His children because He loves them, and His discipline teaches us to fear Him (respect, honor, and obey)
- The psalmist recognizes that we need God’s favor on us, His delight in us in turn gives us joy, and this joy fuels us to serve Him.
God’s Faithful Love
By understanding how much He loves us and provides for all our needs, we can have joy and live out the remainder of our days in joyful obedience.
- Recognize God’s faithful love and the many benefits we have in Christ (read Psalm 103 as a good starting point)
- Dwell on His love and praise Him for it
Let us pray for a heart of wisdom, recognizing the fleeting nature of life and seeking to use our time wisely for God’s purposes, finding satisfaction in His love each day.
