God’s Assignment For You (Acts 13)

As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2)

Somewhere along the way we started to believe that the “work of the ministry” is only for the pastors and missionaries. When we read about the Apostles proclaiming the gospel, healing the sick, making disciples, we consider that to be for the select few. But the Bible makes it clear that every Christian is “set apart” by God to the work of the ministry. Paul tells us that the saints are to be equipped for the work of the ministry (Eph. 4:12). “Saint” means “set apart ones.” The set apart ones are being equipped for the work of the ministry of the Kingdom.

So God through the Holy Spirit has set you apart for the work to which he has called you (Acts 13:2). God has empowered you for this work as Jesus said, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). You have the Holy Spirit, you are set apart by God, so you are a partner in his redeeming purposes!

Spend a few minutes meditating on this…

What work has God called you to in this current season of your life?

Consider your family, your workplace, your neighborhood, your circle of friends.

How does God want to partner with you right now?

What is God’s assignment for you this week?
