A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory comes from the LORD. (Proverbs 21:31)
Would you call yourself a Type-A planner? Or if not, are you the competitive type? Do you like to line all your ducks in a row, to organize and plan for success and accomplishment?
Today’s key proverb infers that we can try to prepare all we want, but sometimes, victory may not come right away; victory actually comes from the Lord. As tough as our pride wants to admit, God allows us to experience failures, trials, and tribulations. He lets this happen to grow us in wisdom and to depend on Him more. God ordains!
Among everything God ordains, He willed the life, death, and resurrection of his only Son, Jesus as the ultimate victory of all mankind against evil. Numerous people have tried to kill Jesus, thus thwarting God’s plan, but He is sovereign. God had to sacrifice his Son to pay for all the sins we committed against him. God forgave us when Jesus took our place on the cross, and now, we are righteous in his eyes. He loves you that much, infinitely more than anyone can. We can now ask our Father in Jesus’ name to help us overcome battles! Whatever battle you are facing, you can be confident that God is always with you.
Yes, He will never leave you alone. He sent you to the world as an ambassador of Christ to fight the real battle which is spiritual warfare against darkness and evil (Eph. 6:12). The Lord equips us with a weapon in this fight, the sword of the Spirit which is God’s Word (Eph. 6:17). Just as a professional athlete must physically train regularly, so too should we wield God’s Word daily while turning to God in prayer. Our enemy doesn’t stand a chance.
Again, this battle against evil is not ours to fight alone, but along with His Spirit we fight hand-in-hand with our spouse, our friend, our brother or sister, our son or daughter. Together, we fight through meeting regularly and worshipping together in prayer, Scripture reading, song, dance, and fellowship. And this is to God’s glory, that the battle belongs to the Lord (1 Sam. 17:47). Ultimately, victory and all its glory belongs not to us, but to God alone.
