READ Proverbs 19:16-29

“If you stop listening to correction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.” (Proverbs 19:27)

Does the wisdom of Scripture ever feel like a sharply painful, overwhelming power–like a fire hose discharging its high pressure water directly into your ears, like a jack hammer in your proverbial heart? If you feel hurt by your pride or past, you may be tempted to stop listening.

But please don’t.

Being corrected may be painful, but going the wrong way is worse. Your heavenly Father is leading you home. He is correcting your ship’s course. He is directing your steps to Himself. If you have ears, learn the lesson you need to hear!

If you have an okole that needs spanking, He may need to gently spank you, but it’s because He loves you! He is for your good. If you stop listening to His correction, where else will you find the words of life?

What is one way your Father is correcting you? Consider if there is an idol in your life that you value more than Him. Have ears that hear, and listen! Keep yourselves in His love. Keep yourselves from idols.
