Proverbs 15:1-15 | God Sees Your Heart

READ Proverbs 15:1-15

“Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the LORD—how much more, human hearts.” (Proverbs 15:11)

We all know that God sees everything and knows everything. But do we truly believe that?

Among everything God sees, He sees Sheol and Abaddon, or Death and Destruction. “Sheol” represents the state of Death or hell (Ps. 18:5). “Abaddon” is the Hebrew word for the Place of Destruction, ruin, or the underworld (Ps. 88:11-12). If God can see into the caverns of all of these places, this Proverb asks how much more does our Lord sees the depths of our hearts?

Only He knows the secrets of our hearts (1 Sam. 16:7). There’s no use in hiding from God because His eyes are everywhere (15:3) and eventually, “each of us will give an account of himself to God” (Rom. 14:12). Whatever we try to conceal will be brought to light (Lk. 8:17). Can you believe that God knows our deepest intentions, the filth of our hearts, yet He willingly accepted the death we deserved for our sin? It’s incredible that anyone can love unconditionally the way God does. Only our good Father compassionately throws His arms around your neck and kisses you when you return to Him after sinning against Him (Lk. 15:20).

How should we respond to such love and mercy? Answer God’s call by surrendering your life and heart for Christ, and willingly submit to Him! This life of righteousness and submission to Christ is what this first half of Proverbs 15 and our lives are about. Will you answer His call today?
