You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
You have the same mission the disciples did when Jesus sent them to be his witnesses in Jerusalem. That was the lion’s den where Jesus was crucified just a few weeks before. Jesus wants to send you into uncomfortable places too, so you’ll need to depend on the Spirit for courage.
Then Jesus sent his disciples to all Judea. That’s a large area, which meant their mission would be a lifelong effort. Jesus wants to use you as his witness every day for the rest of your life, so you’ll need to depend on the Spirit for endurance and perseverance.
Jesus also sent his disciples to Samaria. To minister to the one nation every Jew hated the most. Jesus wants to use you as his witness, even to people you don’t like, so you’ll need to depend on the Spirit for supernatural love.
And then, Jesus sent his disciples to the end of the earth. That would have been a tough assignment, since most Jews didn’t like to go far from home into unfamiliar territories and unfamiliar cultures. Most of us are the same. But this is the mission Jesus has given you by the power of the Holy Spirit: to be his witness on Oahu, and across the islands, and around the world.
