Is it not true my house is with God? For he has established a permanent covenant with me, ordered and secured in every detail. Will he not bring about my whole salvation and my every desire? (2 Samuel 23:5)
Christian, comfort yourself today by meditating on and praying through these last words of David, who knew that even though the end of his life on earth was certain, he had a more certain, a more powerful hope in his Lord! We can always come to him in prayer, and he is faithful and perfect and good.
Heavenly Father,
This world is crazy, and life is short. Success is fleeting. People come and go. The relationships that we cherish sometimes fail. We sin and hurt one another. And there is much brokenness and division and death!
But Father, you are Lord, and you are in control. Your plans are perfect, and you are faithful, just, loving, and merciful to people who don’t deserve it. My hope and my home are not in this broken, man-centered world. They are in you!
You’ve made a permanent covenant with David—that through his line there would be a perfect King, a King who would save His people, and a King that would reign forever! You have taken care of every single thing to fulfill that promise through Christ and will take care of every single thing to fulfill all your promises to your people. You are faithful!
Just as you did for David, O Lord, you will bring about my whole salvation, through the work of your son, Jesus. You have begun a good work in me, and I am confident that you will bring it to completion at the day of Christ Jesus. In you, I find my rest and am satisfied. Cause me to not seek satisfaction in things of this world, but to find these things in you!
In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
