How happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! You will surely eat what your hands have worked for. You will be happy, and it will go well for you. (Psalms 128:1-2)
Ever since the Fall, we’ve been very skeptical of God. We don’t naturally trust God anymore. And so, we run and hide in our nakedness and shame. No longer is it an easy thing for human beings to entrust themselves into the hands of God. There’s a lot of suspicion with God, and this leads to questioning and turning away from his loving guidance over our lives.
But when the Spirit of God works deeply in a person’s heart, the cynicism and callousness begins the heal process. Yet, so stubborn is our will that God knows he will have to spend our entire earthly lives convincing us that he is trustworthy. And his most persuasive move toward us is through the gospel. God has not just required a sacrifice for our sins, but in his love he has provided it. For God so loved the world that he sent his one and only Son to absorb the punishment we deserved. And God did this so that we would truly live a happy and blessed life.
Listen to the psalmists words to you and I, “How happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! You will surely eat what your hands have worked for. You will be happy, and it will go well for you” (v.1-2). This has always been the Father’s desire for you—ever since the days of the Garden. To bless you well. To love you well. And for you to trust and delight in him for it. The Father only wants good for you. And so today, will you trust him? Will you fear and respect what he’s said is true and good for your life? Our God can be trusted, he’s got a really good track-record to prove it.
