Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain; Unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain. (Psalms 127:1)
In today’s Psalm, Solomon wants to remind David of the importance of depending on God for everything. Whether it is running an effective household, building a house, working in a hotel or an office, we need to depend totally on God for our successes. No matter what skills, talents, capabilities, or genius that you may have, any efforts that don’t include a foundation of relying on God will be rendered futile and fruitless. Solomon is encouraging us to see the blessing that a home, a family, and a nation of people can have when we place God at the head of our house and we make Jesus, Lord of our lives.
If you have been trying to do too many things on your own strength, it’s not too late to put the Lord back in charge of your life. If you have been frustrated over fruitless laboring, ask God for forgiveness and confess to God that without Him, you can do nothing. Then choose from today moving forward, that you will follow the Lord’s lead for your life, your home, your work, and wholly depend on God’s wisdom and guidance. Say goodbye to your days of endless futility and enjoy the presence of God in your life and see what He is able to do in and through your life.
