Psalm 105 – Faithful Forever

READ PSALM 105

He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he ordained for a thousand generations (Psalms 105:8)

Go online, watch the news, check your social media feeds and you are likely to be met with something that frustrates you. What we see on the news and read online is highlights of the wrong things that happen in the world. For believers there’s something better to meditate on. More than the news we can look back at God’s past faithfulness and see how God has always supported, loved, and saved his people. That’s what Psalm 105 is all about.

The psalm begins with praises to God calling the reader to “give thanks to the Lord” and to “call on his name” (v.1). Why should we do that? We should do that because our God is a God who “remembers his covenant forever, the promise he ordained for a thousand generations” (v.8). In other words, God is always, at all times, faithful to his word and he promised to never leave you or forsake you (Heb. 13:5). He doesn’t lie. He doesn’t change his mind. No matter what. God’s faithfulness to you is not based on anything you have done and that’s good news. If it were up to us to earn God’s love we’d fall short. But it’s not up to us. That work was done by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So rather than focusing on everything going wrong now, look back at how faithful God’s been in your life and rest knowing he’ll continue to be faithful moving forward.
