READ PSALM 101

I will pay attention to the way of integrity. When will you come to me?I will live with a heart of integrity in my house. (Psalms 101:2)

Psalm 101 was written by King David. In the Psalm he talks about God’s steadfast love and justice, he speaks of turning away from evil things and pursuing holiness. He says, “I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.” He was committed to setting his attention toward things that were profitable and glorifying to God. And yet, king David was a man who followed God but like any human being he had his own flaws. The same man who in faith slayed Goliath was the same man who murdered a man. The same man anointed king over Israel was the same man who would commit adultery. King David could not live up to the ideals written about in this psalm. But there is someone who did.

The New Testament says that Jesus is “one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). Like David in Psalm 101 2, Jesus did “ponder the way that is blameless” but each and every moment of his life he, unlike David, did “walk with integrity of heart within [his] house.” Perfect holiness and righteousness has been achieved for us by Jesus. For those who believe in him, we don’t need to rely on ourselves, but we rely on Jesus who walked in holiness.
