Psalm 95 – Your King Actually Cares
Come, let’s worship and bow down; let’s kneel before the Lord our Maker. For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the sheep under his care. (Psalms 95:6-7)
This Psalm reminds us of an amazing truth that most Christians aren’t very amazed by anymore. Your sovereign King and Creator is also your caring and compassionate Shepherd. Nearly every politician tries to convince you that they care about you and your problems, and some actually do. But only the Good Shepherd cares deeply about your problems and actually has the power to completely solve them.
That’s why Jesus taught us to pray to “Our Father in Heaven.” You can think about it two different ways: our father is in heaven, or the one in heaven is our father. Both ways are equally amazing. Your father — the one who loved you, adopted you, and takes care of you — is in heaven, which means he has all the resources in the universe at his disposal to keep taking care of you. Everything you need? He’s got. At the same time, the one in heaven is your father. The high, holy, glorious, and transcendent One has stooped low to come into the slums and adopt outcasts like us. He’s brought you into his family, and he’s given you everything he has. The King of the Universe actually cares about you. So worship and bow down out of joy and gratitude!
