Psalm 81 – Sing For Joy!

READ PSALM 81

Sing for joy to God our strength; shout in triumph to the God of Jacob. Lift up a song — play the tambourine, the melodious lyre, and the harp. (Psalms 81:1-2)

We’re stoked that our church is slowly coming back to worship together. Most people don’t have tambourines, lyre’s (guitars), or harps lying around at home, so getting together with God’s people gives us the opportunity to express our joyful worship in a way that’s not possible alone. And that’s what empowers us to keep going in tough times like we’re experiencing right now.

Singing gives you strength! When Paul and Silas got thrown in prison for preaching the gospel in Acts 16, it says they were “praying and singing hymns to God.”  At midnight. Loud enough that the whole prison could hear them. And Acts says all the prisoners were listening to them. Even the guy with the tear drop tattoos and the shiv under his pillow. Because singing to God, along with God’s people, is uniquely powerful.
