Psalm 62 – God Is Our Stronghold
I am at rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. (Psalms 62:1)
While it seems like the pace of life should have slowed down under quarantine, many people are still stressed out and burned out. The pressures of working from home and virtual school along with financial worries and health fears combine to make for some really tired and anxious people. We need rest!
And David says we can find it. But only in God. Later in the Psalm we find out that David is anxious and fearful because there are enemies who sense his weakness (he is a “tottering fence”) and are conspiring to take him down. The only way David can sleep at night is by trusting God to be his “stronghold” (v 2). Whatever fears, stresses, or anxieties assail us, we can find rest by trusting that God is a protective stronghold and will not allow anything to happen to us that isn’t for our good.
