Psalm 60 – God Will Restore

by | May 13, 2020

READ PSALM 60

God, you have rejected us; you have broken us down; you have been angry. Restore us! (Psalms 60:1)

As David wrote this psalm, his kingdom was being threatened by their continual enemies the Edomites. Israel had suffered a military defeat, and their very existence was in danger. Right now we’re being threatened by an invisible enemy. We’ve suffered many defeats, and our economy and well-being are in danger.

Even though the threat was entirely earthly, David saw the divine hand of God behind it. That’s why he could cry out to God, “Restore us!” He expected God to preserve his people. Later he prayed, “You have given a signal flag to those who fear you,” showing his trust that God would fight for his people. We can trust God the same way today. God will restore us. Not to the same standard of life we had before. He’ll restore us to believing that he’s blessing us, no matter what our lives look like.
