Psalm 37 – God Meets Our Needs
I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread. (Psalms 37:25)
This is an example of wisdom literature, where the biblical authors observe the way things usually go in the world, not an ironclad rule. Obviously, faithful followers of God have lost everything and been forced to beg God for basic necessities. Just read the book of Job. But usually, as David’s son Solomon said in Proverbs 10:3, “The Lord will not let the righteous go hungry.”
The primary way he accomplishes that is through his family. When David and Solomon were writing, the children of Israel were required to leave the corners of their fields unharvested so the needy could glean wheat and survive. That’s how their grandmother Ruth stayed alive. And today, God provides for his children through the church family. We’ve been overwhelmed to see the generosity of the Harbor family in providing for needs that arise. Please get in touch with us if there are needs in your family that God can meet through his family.
