Psalm 32 – Confess To God
When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long. … Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not conceal my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the guilt of my sin. (Psalms 32:3,5)
There are probably some new sins that have crept into your life over the last few weeks. Ungodly anxiety and fear. Frustration and anger toward the people you’re quarantined with. Laziness and sloth. Impure thoughts driven by inappropriate shows and websites you’re consuming. Maybe you’ve been grumbling and groaning like David lately — could it be because of unconfessed sin?
The starting point of a relationship with Christ is repenting from your sin. And God promises to respond by lifting you up from your gloominess: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you” (James 4:8-10).
