Psalm 17 – The Lord Satisfies
As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. (Psalm 17:15)
In this life disappointment abounds. All of us have had expectations of people, circumstances, and things and found them to be lacking. Maybe you have experienced betrayal by a friend. Maybe you have been in a job you thought would be a dream, only to find that this job has sapped your joy. Maybe you thought getting the latest piece of tech gear or the latest release of Jordan’s would make you happy and you have found yourself only longing for more. Whatever it is that’s disappointed you, I want to tell you what the Psalmist says.
There is a source of ultimate fulfillment and that is in the person, Jesus. Jesus promises to satisfy your thirst for satisfaction, by providing the lasting joy and peace that you long for. How do I know this? Because most of the things in this world that we want comes through a transaction. We pay money in exchange for goods. People expect love before they are willing to love you back. Your job will support you so long as you support its bottom line. But Jesus lays his life down for you without ever asking you to repay him. He needs nothing from you. He wants only to see you receive the satisfaction you have always desired. So don’t look to the world, look only to Christ.
