READ PSALM 11

When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord—his throne is in heaven. His eyes watch. (Psalms 11:3-4)

When David says the “foundations” are destroyed, he’s talking about the normal institutions and functions of society. When David was writing, the social order in Israel had broken down and the things he relied on for daily life had failed to protect him from a threat to his life. Sound familiar?

In spite of the disappointment, uncertainty, and danger, David chose to believe that God was still on his throne, watching over everything and reigning over everything. And God is still in his temple, living everyday life with us, in our midst. When everything else lets us down, we know God is still here and God is still in charge.
