Psalm 7 – Celebrate God’s Righteousness
I will thank the Lord for his righteousness; I will sing about the name of the Lord Most High. (Psalms 7:17)
The Hebrew word for righteousness is the same as justice. So when the Bible says God is righteous, it means he always treats people exactly according to what they deserve. That should be a reason for us to fear, but Jesus has turned it into a cause for us to celebrate. Because of Christ, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When we put our trust in Jesus, we get what he deserves, since he received what we deserved on the cross.
We deserved God’s judgment and wrath, and painful things in our fallen world like viruses and death remind us of that. But we have hope that our righteous God will one day rescue us and give us the blessings that Jesus bought for us on the cross. So celebrate!
