On Sunday, Tony preached from Ephesians 6: “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” He said Satan’s primary scheme is to get us to believe one thing…
In 2 Corinthians 11:3 it says “I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”
Just as Eve was tricked into thinking that what God said wasn’t the truth, Satan wants to trick us. So what was that lie? That lie was primarily that Eve would be happier if she didn’t do what God said. That God was withholding happiness from her.
The Bible says Satan is the father of lies, a deceiver from the beginning. And he has one primary lie that he uses in many different ways. One lie that he spreads with varying methods and in different contexts. It’s the same lie over and over, in different flavors and shapes:
You’ll be happier by not obeying God.
Happier sleeping around, happier not being in fellowship. Happier being unfaithful to God, to your spouse, to your family, to the church.
Satan wants you to look for happiness everywhere except in God. He tells the world they will be happier without God at all, or with a different god, or anything other than living life the way God designed it.
The lie that we believe whenever we sin is that doing the sin will bring more happiness than obeying God.
