(Day 1) Genesis 8: The Rainbow
What do we learn about God’s concern for the passengers of the ark (8:1-5)?

What initiative does Noah take during this time (8:6-12)?

Noah’s first task after emptying the ark is to offer a sacrifice to God (8:20). What does this tell you about his priorities amid the pressure of urgent tasks?

How is God’s grace evident in this passage? In your own life?

Prayer Focus: Thanking God for his grace, saving you from judgment

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 8:13-20. Noah offered the best of what he had to God. What can you offer God today?

(Day 2) Genesis 15: The Plan
What is Abraham’s main problem, and how does he propose to solve it (15:2-3)?

How would God’s message to Abram renew his confidence (15:1, 4-5)?

Explain what it means that God credited Abram’s (weak and shallow) faith to him as righteousness (15:6)?

What in your life has God forced you to wait for? How did you respond? How was he shaping you?

Prayer Focus:  God’s gift of Jesus, which enables our weak faith to be credited as righteousness.

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 15:1-6. Abraham was made righteous and good just because he believed God’s promises. Read some promises God has made specifically to you (Philippians 4:19, 2 Corinthians 12:9, I Corinthians 10:13, Romans 8:28). Are there any that are difficult for you to understand or believe?

(Day 3) Genesis 19: A Catastrophe from God
How do the actions of the people in Sodom help us understand God’s judgment (19:6-13)?

How is the Lord’s mercy evident in his treatment of Lot and his family (19:15-22)?

Describe how God’s judgment works out in Sodom and in Lot’s family (19:23-28).

In what ways have you “looked back” at the world like Lot’s wife did?

Prayer Focus:  God’s salvation of your city or town

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 19: 15-22.  God rescued Lot and his family from danger and judgement. Has there been a time when God rescued your family from danger?

(Day 4) Genesis 22: Final Exam
In God’s command to Abraham what phrases emphasize the magnitude and painfulness of this sacrifice (22:1-2)?

What does this reveal about Abraham’s response to this difficult situation (22:3-10)?

How does God’s provision for Abraham in 22:13-14 fulfill the confidence he expressed earlier (22:5,8)?

Based on what God said to Abraham in 22:12, what does it mean to fear God? By this definition, do you fear God in your everyday life?

Prayer Focus: God’s provision, especially through his son’s sacrifice

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 22:9-14.  If you were in Isaac’s place, how would you feel? Would you trust God to save you?

(Day 5) Genesis 27: Jacob Gets the Blessing
In Gen. 25 it was revealed that Isaac favored Esau, but Rachel favored Jacob. How does this parental favoritism work itself out in this struggle (27:1-17)?

How does Jacob succeed in deceiving his father (27:18-29)?

What strategy does Rebekah devise, and how does she persuade her son and husband to carry it out (27:41-46)?

In what ways have you been influenced by your parents’ weaknesses? How can God give you the power to overcome that influence?

Prayer Focus: God’s power to overcome your past

Family Devotional: Read Genesis 27:14-24.  How did Jacob deceive his father? Why do you think God dislikes dishonesty so much?
