Science and faith can shake hands today

According to this CNN story, scientists have found a way to produce human stem cells without cloning and destroying embryos:

Scientists have made ordinary human skin cells take on the chameleon-like powers of embryonic stem cells, a startling breakthrough that might someday deliver the medical payoffs of embryo cloning without the controversy. …

“This work represents a tremendous scientific milestone — the biological equivalent of the Wright Brothers’ first airplane,” said Dr. Robert Lanza, chief science officer of Advanced Cell Technology, which has been trying to extract stem cells from cloned human embryos.

“It’s a bit like learning how to turn lead into gold,” said Lanza, while cautioning that the work is far from providing medical payoffs.

But then, to my knowledge, so is embryonic stem cell research.

In time, this could become a great testimony to the sovereignty and wisdom of God. If he desires us to accomplish something, he will always provide a way for us to do it without violating his word. Maybe not as quickly and conveniently as we would like, but it will always happen.
