I have to confess feelings of inadequacy whenever I pass by the shirtless guy standing at the entrance to Abercrombie & Fitch. Sure, I’ve preached that “the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1 Samuel 16). That’s why a scrawny runt like David ended up becoming the greatest king Israel ever knew.
But that sermon evaporates into thin air when I’m face-to-face with masculinity perfected at the mall. My rail-like physique, hunched over as I strain to push a double stroller, just can’t compare to the bronzed Greek god at the door who’s checking out my wife.
A lot of other guys must feel the same way, because this week hordes of them decided to go shopping at the flagship A&F store in New York. All at the same time. All without shirts.
Apparently, it’s corporate policy that not just anyone can go shirtless at Abercrombie. Check out the video below.
